Age Group, ParaTriathlete, Clydesdale, Athena

Athletes finishing in the top 15 of their division at a qualifying race will receive an invitation to compete in the 2014 Hy-Vee 5150 US Championship. Athletes will register to compete in the Championship in the same division in which they qualified, regardless of their finish time at the qualifying race.

Qualifying athletes will be contacted after the qualifying event via email with information on how to register for the 5150 US Championship race. Information on registering for the Hy-Vee 5150 US Championship will also be available on the 5150 Triathlon Series website.

If an athlete qualifies for the 5150 US Championship in more than one division by competing at more than one qualifying event, he/she may select their preferred division for the 5150 US Championship.

If an individual athlete qualifies for the 5150 US Championship pays for their entry in the 5150 US Championship and later qualifies for a free entry, a refund of $75.00 will be issued to the athlete upon request and verification. If a relay team pays for their entry into the Championship race and the same relay team later qualifies for a free entry, each relay member will be issued a refund of $45 upon request and verification.

Age Group Qualifying

Male and female triathletes who place in the top 15 of their Age Group at a 5150 qualifying race (see sidebar) earn a slot at the Hy-Vee 5150 Championship.

Qualifying for the Hy-Vee 5150 US Championship as an Age Group Athlete
If an athlete ages up between the qualifying race and the Hy-Vee 5150 US Championship event, the athlete will compete in the new Age Group.

The qualifying Age Groups are listed below:

  • Male & Female 15-19

  • Male & Female 20-24

  • Male & Female 25-29

  • Male & Female 30-34

  • Male & Female 35-39

  • Male & Female 40-44

  • Male & Female 45-49

  • Male & Female 50-54

  • Male & Female 55-59

  • Male & Female 60-64

  • Male & Female 65-69

  • Male & Female 70-74

  • Male & Female 75-79

  • Male & Female 80+

Paratriathlete Qualifying

Male and female paratriathletes who place in the top 15 of the ParaTriathlete division at a 5150 qualifying race earn a slot at the Hy-Vee 5150 US Championship.

At this time, paratriathletes compete at the Hy-Vee 5150 US Championship only against other paratriathletes of the same gender regardless of paratriathlon category.

Athena Qualifying

Female triathletes may elect to compete in a weight-based category for women who weigh 165 pounds (74 kg) and over at a qualifying race, if that division is offered by the qualifying race. The Athena division is further broken down by age – 39 & under and 40 & over.

Qualifying for the Hy-Vee 5150 US Championship as an Athena

In order to race as an Athena at the Hy-Vee 5150 US Championship, an athlete must have raced as an Athena and placed in the top 15 of one of the two Athena age divisions at a qualifying race.

Athena division athletes will be required to weigh in at athlete check-in at the Hy-Vee 5150 US Championship race. If weight requirement is not met, athlete will not be eligible for an award. Athlete will not move into their respective Age Group division.

If an Athena ages up between the qualifying race and the Hy-Vee 5150 US Championship event, the athlete will compete in the new Athena age bracket.

Clydesdale Qualifying

Male triathletes may elect to compete in a weight-based category for men who weigh 220 pounds (99 kg) and over, if that division is offered by the qualifying race. The Clydesdale division is further broken down by age – 39 & under and 40 & over.

In order to race as an Clydesdale at the Hy-Vee 5150 US Championship, an athlete must have raced as an Clydesdale and placed in the top 15 of one of the two Clydesdale age divisions at a qualifying race.

Clydesdale division athletes will be required to weigh in at athlete check-in at the Hy-Vee 5150 US Championship race. If weight requirement is not met, athlete will not be eligible for an award. Athlete will not move into their respective Age Group division.

If a Clydesdale ages up between the qualifying race and the Hy-Vee 5150 US Championship event, the athlete will compete in the new Clydesdale age bracket.
