5150 Klagenfurt: A Word Class Field for the premier event!

The first ever 5150 Klagenfurt will debut this weekend and athletes from 23 countries will be at the start on June 12^th at the beach side Loretto in Klagenfurt. The list of PROs is a strong one and will guarantee an exciting race.

1.5 + 40 + 10 = 51.5.

That’s how the triathlon got its name. Adding the distances results in the catchy name Fiftyonefifty which has been used as a brand by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) since 2011. On 12 June 2011, the 5150 Klagenfurt will take place along the shore of the Wörthersee for the first time.

Being part of the world's largest non-drafting international distance race series, it attracts a lot of attention – in no small part because of the prize money of $25,000. Klagenfurt will join iconic world cities like New York, Las Vegas, Liverpool and Berlin as a host for the new 5150 and proves that the city is one of triathlons global strongholds

NO DRAFTING

On race day, age groups athletes and professionals will race together over the same course. Drafting is prohibited during the bike leg and this will be enforced by referee in chief, two-time winner of the Ironman Austria (2000, 2001) and IRONMAN bike legend, Juergen Zaeck, who together with trained referees of the KTRV will make sure that this rule is adhered to.

EXCLUSIVE CONDITIONS

The 5150 – a race over 1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running – is being run to the highest standards and will offers athletes an incredible experience. Using the incredible surroundings and features of the Seepark Hotel Lindner. In addition, a special edition 5150 watch as a participation gift, an exclusive banquet at the award ceremony, an athletes’ after race party , all combined with the professional support for the athletes and event organization by the Ironman organizer Triangle. This will give participants a truly unforgettable experience.

TOP NAMES

Amongst the 35 professionals who have announced their participation are Ironman 70.3 St. Pölten (Austria) winner and multiple ITU world-cup champion Filip Ospaly (CZE), Swen Sundberg from Germany who finished second in the Ironman Switzerland 2010 race, the ITU Champion Stuart Hayes (GBR) and double duathlon world-champion Paul Amery (GBR). Furthermore there will be the young French PRO and winner of the 5150 Darmstadt Bertrand Billard, the 2008 Ironman Arizona-winner Joszef Major (HUN) and Alessandro Degasperi who was third at this year’s Ironman 70.3 South Africa (ITA).

Austria will be represented by Max Renko, Markus Ressler and Flo Kriegl and will be sure to get plenty of local support.

The 5150 Klagenfurt has a strong global appeal and athletes from 15 nations will be taking part. Amongst them are a group of 60 from Denmark, including former professional athlete Torbjoern Sindbale who finished third in the Ironman Hawaii 2007.

LORETTO & LINDNER

The race will start at 2 p.m. at the beach at Loretto. The 1.5 k swimming will be completed in lake Wörthersee and the Lendkanal creek and there will be four start waves. The swim exit at the Lindner Seepark hotel bay will host transition and athletes will exit here and start the 40k two lap bike ride. The 10 k run will head along lake Wörthersee and athletes will tackle 2 5k laps. The finish line is in front of the Lindner Seepark Hotel. Following the race the award ceremony banquet will be held at 5.30 p.m. Afterwards there’s an athletes’ party at the Sunsetclub directly at the lake.

REGISTRATION AND QUALIFICATION

As a part of the World Series the race in Klagenfurt offers qualification slots for 5150 U.S. Championship in Des Moines, Iowa on September 4^th.

5150 Klagenfurt: Hochkarätiges Starterfeld bei der Erstausgabe!

Das Debut des 5150 Triathlon in Klagenfurt steht vor der Türe. Rund 400 Athleten aus 23 Nationen werden am 12. Juni an den Start im Strandbad Loretto gehen. Ein hochkarätiges Starterfeld hat sein Kommen angekündigt und wird für ein spannendes Rennen sorgen.

Soviel dazu, wie der Triathlon zu seinem Namen kam. Die addierten Distanzen ergeben den klingenden Namen „Fiftyonefifty“, der seit 2011 als Marke von der World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) geführt wird. Am 12. Juni hält die Erstausgabe des 5150 Klagenfurt am Wörthersee Einzug. Als Teil der größten windschattenfreien international-distance Rennserie erweckt der Triathlon große Aufmerksamkeit – besonders durch die Höhe des Preisgeldes von $25.000,-. Dass sich Klagenfurt mittlerweilen als Triathlon-Hochburg einen Namen gemacht hat, zeugt von der Tatsache, dass es sich in der Serie neben Städten wie New York, Las Vegas, Liverpool und Berlin befindet.

WINDSCHATTENFREI

Der Hauptfokus der 5150-Serie liegt am Windschattenverbot, was es bei einer Weltserie über diese Distanz bisher noch nicht gegeben hat. Dass dieser Aspekt auch gewährleistet wird, liegt in den Händen des zweifachen Ironman Austria-Gewinners (2000, 2001) und Chefwettkampfrichters Jürgen Zäck. Gemeinsam mit ausgebildeten Wettkampfrichtern des KTRV wird dafür Sorge getragen, dass nicht gegen die Regeln verstoßen wird.

Mit dem 5150 wird ein Rennen über 1,5 km Schwimmen, 40 km Radfahren und 10 km Laufen auf höchstem Niveau geboten. TOPSTARS

Angekündigt haben sich 35 Profis, darunter befinden sich der zweifache Ironman 70.3 St. Pölten Gewinner und mehrfache ITU Weltcup-Sieger Filip Ospaly (CZE), der Deutsche Swen Sundberg (2. Platz Ironman Switzerland 2010), der zweifache Duathlon Weltmeister Paul Amey (GBR) und der ITU Champion Stuart Hayes (GBR). Außerdem gehen der junge Franzose und Gewinner des 5150 Darmstadt Bertrand Billard, der Ironman Arizona 2008 – Gewinner Joszef Major (HUN) und der Dritte des Ironman 70.3 South Africa 2011 Alessandro Degasperi (ITA) an den Start.

Österreich wird unter anderem vertreten durch Max Renko (NÖ), Markus Ressler (ST) und den Neo-Profi Flo Kriegl (K), der in Kärnten mit Heimvorteil startet.

Dass das Rennen einen internationalen Anreiz hat, beweist die Tatsache, dass Athleten aus 23 Nationen genannt haben, unter anderem eine Gruppe von 55 Dänen, unter ihnen der Ex-Profi und Drittplatzierte bei der Ironman WM auf Hawaii 2007 Torbjoern Sindballe.

LORETTO UND LINDNER

Der Start des Rennens ist um 14.00 Uhr und findet im Strandbad Loretto in vier Wellen statt. Die 1,5 km Schwimmen werden im Wörthersee und im Lendkanal zurückgelegt. Der Schwimmausstieg beim Lindner Seeparkhotel führt in die Wechselzone, von wo aus sich die Athleten auf das Rad schwingen, was in zwei Runden zu je 20 Kilometern absolviert wird. Die abschließenden 10 Kilometer werden ebenfalls zwei Runden ausgetragen und führen entlang des Wörthersees. Der Zieleinlauf findet vorm Lindner Seepark Hotel statt. Um 17.30 Uhr findet das große Siegerehrungsbankett statt. Anschließend gibt’s eine Athleten-Party im Sunsetclub am Wörthersee.

ANMELDUNG UND QUALI

Als Teil einer Weltserie bildet das Rennen in Klagenfurt ein Qualifikationsrennen für die 5150 U.S. Championship in Des Moines, Iowa am 4. September.
